Woop I finished the month of May off with a total of 31 films which perfectly gave me my 1-to-day ratio, lets just not mention the never decreasing backlog…
#113 / 365 – ‘The Hangover Part II’ – 102 mins
Cinema Challenge #43 / 115
Phil (Bradley Cooper), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) jet to Thailand for Stu’s (Ed Helms) wedding to Lauren (Jamie Chung) at an upmarket resort. But it seems like Groundhog Day, when Phil, Alan and Ed wake up in a sleazy hotel room in Bangkok with a cheeky monkey after a few beers on the beach with Lauren’s 16-year-old brother Teddy (Mason Lee). Even worse is the fact that Teddy is now missing – except for a finger. And Mr Chow (Ken Jeong) manages to overdose on cocaine before he can help them.
Oh man, Another wedding, another bachelor party. How can the same shit happen to the same guys twice? The main problem nearly every sequel faces, is trying to recapture that freshness that’s in its original.
Yes everything in this latest outing for the ‘Wolfpack’ is 90% the same as its hugely successful predecessor, Las Vegas has been swapped for seedy Bangkok, the tiger has turned into a monkey drug mule But this formulaic pattern is quickly forgotten because by the time Phil, Stu, Doug and Alan landed on the screen with a monk with a devout vow of silence and ladyboy in tow to up their raucous and outrageous darker antics to another level, which had me breathlessly laughing I had very little care there was no originality feel to it.
